Supporting enterprise or midsize networks, the UltraNet Edge Storage Router (aka “Edge 3000”) provides remote FC or FICON disk mirroring and SAN interconnection over IP, ATM, or SONET networks.
The tape pipelining capability on the UltraNet Edge Storage Router enables remote tape vaulting over long distances, virtually eliminating the impact of latency on the sustainable throughput of tape backup over distance.

F5’s WANJet 500 wide area network (WAN) optimization appliance is a high-performance, WAN optimization and traffic-shaping solution designed to improve the throughput performance of IP traffic over the network.
WANJet works with all IP WAN traffic, but has been specifically tested by the EMC E-Lab for use with SRDF/A and SRDF/DM. It is designed for data-center-to-data-center replication where there are few WAN connections, limited bandwidth (for example, DS-3, OC-3), or networks with the potential for packet loss.
The F5 WANJet appliance helps reduce the operating cost of the bandwidth and improve the performance of the network, thus reducing the overall application response time for remote replication solutions.

NetEx’s HyperIP replication optimization appliance provides WAN optimization for replication applications such as EMC SRDF and EMC Centera® Replication. HyperIP improves native replication application performance by mitigating the harmful effects of network packet loss and network latency.
HyperIP can “rate limit” SRDF or EMC Centera Replication traffic by time of day to prevent WAN saturation and negative impacts on other critical applications. All HyperIP monitored traffic can be collected and viewed using standard SNMP-based management tools.
This product is ideal for those who want to leverage existing TCP/IP networks but are experiencing disruptive network conditions or want to improve bandwidth utilization through compression.

Steelhead Appliances
Riverbed Steelhead appliances minimize WAN bandwidth utilization through various optimization mechanisms such as data streamlining. These mechanisms yield higher data reduction ratios of 5:1 or greater for the common enterprise workloads seen in SRDF/A environments over traditional built-in compression offerings.
By choosing Riverbed, enterprises can address key IT issues that impact day to day operations including:
- WAN capacity acting as a bottleneck to meeting recovery point objective and recovery time objective (RPO/RTO).
- Data growth driving the need to send more data over the same pipe.
- Cost of WAN circuit hindering business continuity planning.
- Replication projects in which bandwidth is shared with other applications.
- Network latency impacting long-distance replication.

Silver Peak NX Appliances
This WAN acceleration device improves performance, scalability, and security of replication over WAN links, enabling reduced bandwidth for SRDF/A deployments. NX appliances reduce WAN traffic by eliminating the transfer of duplicate data between enterprise locations.
They also provide advanced Quality of Service (QoS) policies to prioritize replication traffic and guarantee appropriate bandwidth, latency mitigation techniques to extend the distance between replicating locations, and loss mitigation techniques neutralizing the effects of out-of-order and lost packets across the WAN.
Global Management System (GMS)
A platform for the deployment, management, and monitoring of a Silver Peak-enabled WAN, GMS gives detailed visibility into WAN performance statistics, application analysis, and tools for the configuration and management of Silver Peak NX Series appliances.
